Despite his father and brother being coal miners on strike, Billy secretly joins a ballet class. His dance teacher believes he has the talent to study at the Royal Ballet School. Jackie, Billy's father, initially opposes his dream fearing judgment, but later supports him. With the help of the community, Billy auditions for the school and overcomes obstacles. Fourteen years later, Billy performs the lead in Swan Lake, achieving his dream.
