Akron tells the story of Benny and Christopher, college freshmen, who meet playing football at a small Midwestern college. Their love grows through a secret four-year relationship in which they meet in Akron weekends, marked by longing and joy for a time when they can finally fuse their lives together. But one night, Christopher's stepfather catches them kissing in the car and drives Christopher to the brink of suicide. The story follows their separate lives after their traumatic split.
