Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972)

Set in the 16th century, a Spanish conquistador ventures into the heart of the Amazon rainforest in search of the legendary city of El Dorado. As the journey progresses, he succumbs to megalomania and obsession, leading to the decline of the entire expedition.
