In 2022, the United States is ruled by the New Founding Fathers of America and every year, there is a 12-hour period called The Purge where all crime is legal. James Sandin, a wealthy salesman, sells security systems specifically designed for The Purge. During The Purge, James and his family become targets for a group of purgers. As they fight to survive the night, they realize they are becoming like the purgers themselves. In the end, they are saved by a bloody stranger who helps them escape. Despite growing discontent, The Purge will continue the following year.

They are pursued by Purgers and must rely on the help of the Crips gang. They find refuge with the anti-Purge movement led by Dante Bishop. After a series of confrontations, Charlie wins the presidency and begins her plan to end Purge Night.
