The Little family adopts Stuart, a young mouse, but their cat, Snowbell, tries to eliminate him. Despite initial resistance from George, the Little's son, Stuart wins him over and they work together to build a model boat for a race. Meanwhile, Snowbell makes a plan with alley cats to remove Stuart from the Little's house. However, Stuart manages to win the boat race and prove his worth. Later, the Littles discover that Stuart's real parents were killed and they call the police. After a series of adventures, Stuart returns home and reunites with his family.
