In the year 2045, people escape the desolation of Earth by engaging in the virtual reality world of the OASIS. When the creator of the OASIS dies, he challenges players to find his Easter Egg, promising them his fortune and control of the OASIS. Wade Watts, a young Gunter, teams up with fellow players to complete the quests and defeat the evil conglomerate IOI, who also seeks the Easter Egg. Together, they uncover the truth about the creator's regrets and ultimately gain control of the OASIS.
