After the events of the first film, Flint Lockwood is working at The Live Corp Company for his idol Chester V. But when he discovers that his most dangerous invention is still active, he is forced to leave his post. Meanwhile, Chester is determined to find the FLDSMDFR, the surviving machine from the previous film. Flint is tasked with destroying it, but he must navigate a jungle-like island filled with living food animals. Along the way, Flint's friends join him and they uncover Chester's sinister plot to use the foodimals for his own gain. With the help of his friends and the foodimals, Flint must stop Chester and save the island.

Flint Lockwood, a failed inventor, creates a machine that can turn water into food, but it malfunctions and starts raining food from the sky. Amidst the chaos, Flint realizes something is wrong with the machine, but the corrupt mayor convinces him to ignore it. As chaos ensues, Flint must find a way to save the town from the food-induced disaster.
